David Humphreys Back

David is a self taught artist and has been painting for a number of years. He originally started by undertaking and achieving an A-level in ART through evening classes many years ago and then undertook postal tuition with professional artists.
David concentrated in recent years on miniature paintings and has had his work go as far a field as Russia, USA and Europe.
Retirement has provided David wit time to paint pictures for Dolls House enthusiasts and miniature collectors.

Recently he has become interested in Naïve Art particularly L.S.Lowry and Contempory artists working in this genre. He has developed his own style of naïve art and two of his paintings have gone to a collector in Germany.

David tries to capture and portray local scenes near his home and in Wales when on holiday with his wife Janet and Willow their trusty Staffy!

Holiday season in North Norfolk provides David with much of his subject matter as holidaymakers descend on his home town – Sherringham.

Here holiday visitors tend to let their “hair down” (and sometimes much more) revealing sights that he previously had paid little attention to, now they have become subjects for his pictures.

David tries to convey these “colourful” subjects through his use of watercolour and Derwent coloursoft pencils (mixed media) he occasionally introduces acrylic paint where he feels it can be used to best advantage on a particular subject he is working on.

His wife Janet plays an important part in the production of his art work as his main critic with an “oh” (needs correcting) to an “ah!” (That’s better!)
