Kim Watkins Back

I create unique naïve pictures, using predominantly recycled paper and card and also alcoholic labels. I sew most of my work together on my sewing machine and have devised all the techniques myself. I get inspiration from all around me in South Devon and enjoy the silly words that end up in a lot of my pieces!

In my previous life, I was a staff nurse, then a teaching assistant, but four years ago, after being unwell, I made the decision to leave my job and work for myself full time, creating beautiful things. I have continued doing this, and my passion for it only increases.

I use paper old and new, sourcing items everywhere I go, I use old tatty books, maps, comics, stamps, and so much more, even junk mail and the inside of used envelopes. I am passionate about what I do and love the fact that I am making something beautiful out of nothing, saving some wonderful items from the bin truly satisfies my “inner Womble”.

Every picture tells a tale, not only is it a visual narrative, but also through the materials that have created it.
